Ecumenical dialogue
The Institute takes part in the ecumenical dialogue with the aim of a future unity in truth and love. The members of the scientific team are invited to dialogue talks by the Papal Council for Christian Unity, the German Bishops' Conference and the Archdiocese of Paderborn. This includes mainly the cooperation in different ecumenical organizations and committees on an international, national and local level. The cooperation is performed in following committees:
- Working Group of Christian Churches (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen) on a national, regional and local level
- Ecumenical Commission of the German Bishops' Conference
- Conference of the ecumenical officers of the german dioceses
- Papal Council for Promoting Christian Unity
The Möhler-Insitute was and is involved in the following dialogues:
- Bilateral working group of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany (German: Vereinigte Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche Deutschlands) (VELKD) and the German Bishops' Conference
- Deutscher Ökumenischer Studienausschuss (DÖSTA)
- Dialogue Commission of the Lutheran World Federation and the Papal Council for Promoting Christian Unity
- Commission Faith and Order in the Ecumenical Council of Churches
- Consultations between the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe and the Papal Council for Promoting Christian Unity
- Joint Commission of the German Bishops' Conference and the Orthodox Bishop's Conference in Germany
- Theological talks of the German Bishops' Conference with the Russian Orthodox Church
The Möhler-Institute independently maintains ecumenical talks:
- With representatives of the Association of Evangelical Free Churches in Germany
- Within the joint Catholic-Orthodox working group “St. Irenäus”
